The Tomyodo Lighthouse was situated on a small cape at Nishi Uraga. It was a two-story tall, tile roof lighthouse constructed under the orders of the Shogunate in 1648. The light was fueled by rapeseed oil and fish oil, and was said to be able to shine 4 nautical miles (7.4 km) across the water.
