The former site of the stronghold for the Miura Clan, former rulers of the Miura Peninsula.
Ruins of Kinugasa Castle
Kinugasa Castle was naturally fortified by two rivers and is presumed to have been constructed between 1058 – 1064. The site is also famously recognized for the Battle of Kinugasa in which the fourth head of the Miura Clan and supporter of Minamoto no Yoritomo, Miura Yoshiaki, fought the army of the Heike in August 1180.
