These rail sidings were used for transportation and are unique even within Japan. The warehouses were used to store munitions for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
Nagaura Warehouses and Rail Siding
The row of warehouses along the Port of Nagaura quay wall were used as storage for the Imperial Japanese Navy Munitions Department and Supply Department. The warehouses are large-scale steel-frame buildings that were constructed prior to World War II, and they are valued as important relics within Japan. Each warehouse was situated to allow for cargo to be either transported either inland via the JR line or seaward. The rail sidings used for transportation can still be seen around the area.
