The monument in Perry Park marks the location where Commodore Perry of the East India Squadron delivered the U.S. president’s letter to the Uraga Magistrate’s Office in 1853. Ito Hirobumi’s handwritten words “Monument to the Landing of U.S. Navy Commodore Perry” are inscribed upon the monument in Japanese.
