The birthplace of the sukajan jacket. This distinct street overflows with the spirit of another country.
Dobuita Street
This street is located in the area between the U.S. Naval Base and Shioiri Station and will allow you to feel the distinct atmosphere of Yokosuka. During the Taisho Period (1912-1926), a drainage ditch, or “dobu,” flowed through the center of the street. Thick steel plates, or “ita,” were used cover the ditch and the street came to be called Dobuita Street. This street is also recognized as the birthplace of the sukajan jacket.
