Sakurai Kotaro, the first Japanese person authorized to wear the title of British Certified Architect, was one of the designers for the residence. It was constructed in 1913 and overlooks Tokyo Bay on top of a hill in Tadodai. The residence combines traditional Japanese-style and western-style buildings and draws attention with its distinct British design.
